Stuck in Your Kizomba Journey?
Read This.

Are you attending classes, practicing regularly, but still feeling like you're not improving?

Sometimes, the reasons behind a lack of progress aren't immediately obvious. Here are seven key areas to evaluate if you're struggling to progress in your Kizomba journey.

As you read, select the areas you believe need improvement. You can then download a personalized checklist to guide your development.

1

Evaluate Your Kizomba Education

Are you receiving a strong understanding of the fundamentals? Are techniques being explained clearly? Is the source of your education, whether in person or online, able to identify mistakes and provide appropriate corrections?

Remember, just because someone teaches Kizomba doesn't necessarily mean they have good technique or the ability to identify and correct mistakes.

The quality of your education plays a significant role in your development as a dancer.

2

Are You Putting in the Necessary Work?

Are you practicing consistently? Are you working on your technique outside of class?

Simply attending lessons isn't enough if you're not putting in the effort required to improve.

Progress requires consistent practice, dedication, and a willingness to work on areas that need improvement.

3

Have You Truly Mastered the Fundamentals?

Are you focusing too heavily on advanced movements while neglecting your foundation?

Posture, balance, weight transfer, connection, and basic technique are essential to long-term improvement.

Sometimes, the key to moving forward is revisiting and strengthening what you've already learned.

4

Are You Practicing with Purpose or Simply Repeating Mistakes?

Dancing frequently doesn't necessarily mean you're improving.

Repeating incorrectly learned techniques can reinforce bad habits and make them increasingly difficult to correct.

Intentional practice, supported by the right guidance, means identifying weaknesses and deliberately working to correct them.

Remember, practice alone doesn't guarantee improvement. The quality of your practice matters.

5

Are You Getting Feedback from the Right People?

Not everyone offering advice has the knowledge or experience necessary to provide accurate guidance.

Incorrect feedback can create confusion, reinforce mistakes, and potentially slow your development.

Be sure that those from whom you seek advice are genuinely knowledgeable about the particular subject or issue you're facing.

Remember, someone having an opinion about your dancing doesn't necessarily mean they're qualified to evaluate your technique.

6

Are You Developing Your Musicality and Connection?

Are you simply collecting movements, or are you learning how to interpret the music and communicate with your partner?

Great dancing isn't about how many movements you know, but how effectively you use them.

Developing your musicality, connection, and understanding of movement can significantly improve the overall quality of your dancing.

7

Are You Comparing Your Progress to Other Dancers?

Everyone learns at a different pace.

Comparing yourself to other dancers can create unnecessary frustration and unrealistic expectations.

Instead, evaluate your progress against where you were several months ago.

Focus on your own development, recognize your improvements, and understand that progress isn't always immediately visible.

Sometimes, a Fresh Perspective Is All You Need

If you're struggling to improve, consider having your dancing evaluated by someone with the technical knowledge and experience necessary to identify the areas holding you back.

Sometimes, a small correction, a clearer explanation, or a different approach to practicing can make a significant difference.

Remember, progress isn't simply about how much you dance. It's about the quality of your education, the effort you invest, and how effectively you apply what you've learned.
